DAD RAVENNA Interface Card (CARD-RAVENNA)

The DAD RAVENNA Interface Card (CARD-RAVENNA) has been purpose-engineered for professional broadcast, television, radio, outside broadcast (OB), live production and post-production facilities that require uncompromising Audio over IP (AoIP) performance. Supporting RAVENNA®, AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110-30, the CARD-RAVENNA integrates seamlessly into standards-based IP audio infrastructures while delivering deterministic ultra-low latency performance through the DAD Thunder|Core FPGA platform. Designed for mission-critical broadcast environments, the card enables reliable, high-channel-count audio transport with the flexibility to operate across dedicated RAVENNA networks or open, interoperable AES67 and ST 2110 production systems.

Featuring two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, the CARD-RAVENNA provides up to 128 bidirectional audio channels with selectable Sample Rate Conversion (SRC) independently available on both the inputs and outputs. The dual Ethernet ports can operate as an integrated network switch or be configured for SMPTE ST 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching (SPS), providing fully redundant network operation for applications where uninterrupted programme audio is essential.

Built for Modern Broadcast IP Networks

As television and radio facilities continue migrating from traditional point-to-point digital audio infrastructures towards standards-based IP networking, interoperability has become increasingly important. The DAD CARD-RAVENNA has been developed specifically for these environments, allowing broadcasters to transport high-channel-count audio across Ethernet networks while maintaining sample-accurate synchronisation, deterministic latency and exceptional operational reliability.

Supporting RAVENNA, AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110-30, the card allows engineers to integrate DAD systems with production switchers, digital consoles, audio routers, replay servers, commentary systems, recording workstations and broadcast infrastructures from multiple manufacturers. Rather than locking facilities into a proprietary networking solution, the CARD-RAVENNA provides standards-based interoperability across modern IP production environments.

Independent Sample Rate Conversion

Broadcast systems frequently combine equipment operating on different clock domains and sample rates. The CARD-RAVENNA simplifies these installations through independent Sample Rate Conversion (SRC) on every input and output channel. Audio sources operating asynchronously can therefore be connected without requiring external sample rate converters or complex clock distribution systems, significantly reducing system complexity while preserving audio quality and operational stability.

This flexibility is particularly valuable in multi-studio broadcast centres, outside broadcast vehicles, remote production facilities and live event environments where equipment from multiple manufacturers must operate together as a single integrated system.

Designed for Mission-Critical Reliability

Professional broadcast facilities cannot tolerate programme interruptions. The DAD CARD-RAVENNA therefore supports SMPTE ST 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching (SPS), allowing both Ethernet ports to operate as fully redundant network paths. Should one network connection fail, audio continues seamlessly across the secondary path without interruption to programme output.

Precision timing is maintained through IEEE 1588 PTPv2 synchronisation, ensuring sample-accurate clock alignment throughout the network. Combined with deterministic FPGA processing, the CARD-RAVENNA delivers the predictable low-latency performance demanded by modern television production, radio broadcasting and live production facilities.

Network Discovery and Interoperability

The CARD-RAVENNA supports modern broadcast network management through compatibility with NMOS IS-04 discovery and registration together with NMOS IS-05 connection management. These industry-standard protocols simplify installation, routing and device management across large-scale IP infrastructures while supporting open interoperability between equipment from multiple manufacturers.

Within the DAD Thunder|Core ecosystem, every RAVENNA audio stream becomes immediately available to the internal routing matrix, allowing engineers to distribute audio to analogue I/O, Dante®, MADI, AES3, monitoring systems, recording workstations or additional network interfaces without introducing unnecessary latency or additional conversion stages.

Professional Broadcast Applications

The DAD CARD-RAVENNA has been designed for television production, radio broadcasting, news production, sports broadcasting, master control, post-production, outside broadcast vehicles, remote production and live event facilities. Whether transporting commentary, programme audio, international sound, clean feeds or immersive audio productions, the card provides the reliability, scalability and interoperability required by today’s IP-based broadcast workflows.
